About The Site
The City of Aurora (COA) website has been designed to be accessible to as many users as possible by complying with the Illinois Web Accessibility Standards, the Federal Section 508 Accessibility Guidelines and the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) HTML 4.01 Strict and CSS 2.1 standards.
The navigational menus on the site are fully accessible via keyboard. Using the TAB key, all menu items can be selected in order. To access the sub-menus in the left-hand navigation, users can make use of the TAB key to select the main menu item, then press ENTER to expand or collapse the navigation. When expanded, users may TAB through the sub-navigation.
The COA website has been designed with flexibility in mind. It will expand to fit the size of the user’s browser window, and comfortably supports screen resolutions of 800x600 and higher. All text within the site is user resizable and supports a wide range of text sizes while maintaining a consistent design.
All images within the site have been given appropriate alternative text descriptions and all tables have been labeled with appropriate captions. All form fields have been marked with content-specific labels.
Other File Formats
For the publication of large or complex documents such as Aldermen’s Committee Agendas and Minutes, this site makes use of the Portable Document Format (PDF), commonly referred to as Adobe Acrobat. PDF documents can be converted back to plain text using Adobe Acrobat free 30 day trial.
PDF is a versatile format which allows you to view, search and print documents while retaining a compact file size. To view and print PDF files you will need to download and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Searching the website
You may search the entire contents of this website, including PDF files, by using the sitewide search feature located near the top right of each page.
A separate search function, located directly under the events calendar, is provided to allow you to search through the Events Calendar by event type, date or keyword.
Contact information, including address, phone and fax numbers, for each department is located directly under the search tool near the top of the right column on each page for each department. Additionally, users may contact the City through the Customer Service Department using the Customer Service link in the top navigation on every page or by calling (630) 256-INFO (4636).
A list of commonly requested services has been provided in the top navigation under the “I Want To...” menu. You may also access the “I Want To...” page directly.
Main content is always located in the middle of the page. If a section contains secondary content, such as downloadable PDF forms, links to external sites, that information can be found in the secondary content section located near the bottom of the right column, under the Events Calendar.
A dynamic Events Calendar is provided in the right column of every page on the site. The current day is highlighted in red, and all days on which events take place are clickable links that will take you to a listing of all events for that day. You may also use the arrows to the right and left of the month heading to move forward or back a month.
Current News can always be found in the top menu under the “In The News” menu item. clicking on this button will take you to a complete listing of all current news items for the City of Aurora. The top three news items are always listed on the home page as well.
News items or events deemed vitally important to the residents of the City of Aurora will be indicated as alerts and will always appear at the top of the content section of the home page.
