Thinking about buying a home? Great news! The City of Aurora partners with many great organizations to bring you assistance. Following are two examples:

Choose Aurora Down Payment Assistance Grant

No longer accepting applications at this time

Funded by the City of Aurora's Community Development Block Grant, this program offers grants of $3,000 to $5,000 in downpayment and closing cost assistance to persons or families earning at or below 80% of the Chicago-area Area Media Income (or $61,500 for a family of four in 2016) and who choose to purchase their home in the City. Three year legal covenants for homeownership and maintenance will apply. For more details, please contact the City of Aurora Neighborhood Redevelopment Division at the number listed on the right.

Illinois Assist grant program

Sponsored by the City of Aurora and designed to be part of the mortgage application process, Illinois Assist is a grant given at closing as a percentage of the mortgage loan amount. The assistance may be used for down payment or closing costs and prepaids. Assistance is in the form of a non-repayable grant. When the first mortgage is reserved, the assistance is automatically reserved. When the loan is closed, there are not second mortgages, second notes, deed restrictions or liens.
