downtown parking options.

Located 40 miles west of Chicago, Aurora is the second largest City in Illinois. Our vibrant and exciting downtown offers a variety of retail, residential, and entertainment options including a casino, two major music venues, restaurants, a community college, and commuter station. Situated on approximately 49 City blocks, Downtown Aurora offers something for everyone--- and convenient, flexible parking to meet your exact needs.

Parking Overview

The City of Aurora utilizes a color-coded system for on-street and lot parking which carry different time limits. Since parking spaces closer to the heart of downtown are in more demand, they carry shorter limits than those located in other areas. Not only does this system result in more equitable parking opportunities for businesses and patrons alike, it also allows you to choose your most convenient option depending on the time you will spend downtown.

Know Your Color!

Aurora’s downtown parking is broken down into five color-coded categories with the following time limits:

Color Category On-Street Time Limits Parking Lot Time Limit
Platinum 90 Minutes Not Applicable
Gold 2 Hours 2 Hours
Silver 2 Hours 3 Hours
Bronze 3 Hours 6 Hours
Mercury 5 Hours 10 Hours

*In addition, the Stolp Island Parking Garage at the corner of Downer Place and Stolp Avenue has free parking for up to one hour and reasonable parking rates with longer limits.

After 5 p.m., the City offers public parking at the northwest corner of River and New York Streets in the West Suburban Bank parking lot until 3 a.m.

Enforcement Hours

On-Street parking is enforced from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Parking lots are monitored from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. The City utilizes electronic license plate readers to assure fair and equitable parking. If you require longer term parking, please use the parking lots identified with the letter “P”. If you park in the downtown area daily there are a number of off-street parking lots that are available for longer-term free parking or use as permit parking.

Parking Tickets for Exceeding Time Limits

The City has instituted a graduated fine schedule for parking tickets issued for exceeding the posted time limit in the downtown. The parking fine is based on the number of repeat offences in a rolling 12-month period. That fine schedule is as follows:
